Head Steady - Fitting Instructions![]()

Removing The Old Unit
1. Remove the seat.
2.
Disconnect the battery at the fuse holder.
3.
Remove the fuel tank ensuring you disconnect the fuel lines at the petrol
taps and remove the securing nuts.
4.
Remove the old heady steady by taking off the 2 studs and flexible
mountings & side plate. Remove
the rubber mountings from the frame. Remove
the socket screws and lift the main steady plate away from the cylinder head.
1.
Put the new head steady into place and loosely assemble the three socket screws
into the cylinder head.
2.
Fit the long bolts through the rear holes in the triangular plate, fit
the tubular spacer and thread bolts loosely into the threaded frame bosses.
3.
Fit the front tube spacer and fit two short bolts loosely.
4.
Fit the clamp over the small frame tube and secure with the small bolts.
5.
To ensure self alignment, tighten all bolts progressively.
6.
Before shimming the head steady, main front and rear isolastic mountings
must be shimmed to an ideal clearance of 0.01 inches (0.25mm) as
detailed in the workshop manual. Now
shim the new head steady to the same figure by the recommended method. Rear Isolastic shims are suitable for this.
7.
Tighten the three socket screws into the head whilst making sure the head
steady is kept square to the side plates, - if it is not square, you will have
more vibration and not less.
8.
Refit the tank and seat then connect the fuse holder.
